Boil Water Advisory remains

Following a water main break on a 36-inch transmission main at Ferst Dr NW and Hemphill Ave NW yesterday, which interrupted service at the Hemphill Electric Pumping Station, a Boil Water Advisory was issued out of an abundance of caution for residents and businesses in portions of the city of Atlanta (South of 17th St. NW and West of East Lake Drive SE), and the cities of South Fulton, Union City, Fairburn, and Chattahoochee Hills. The issue has been effectively isolated to the localized area of Georgia Tech and repairs to the water main are on-going. Service has been restored to all areas, although some customers may be experiencing lower than normal pressures.

Sampling of the impacted areas was initiated last night and lab results are expected after 7:30 pm tonight. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division will advise the Department of Watershed Management when the advisory can be lifted.

While the system has returned to normal, those in the impacted areas should continue to boil all water prior to use or use bottled water until the boil water advisory is lifted. If you experienced a low water pressure or a loss of water at your address, but your address is not within the area described, the City recommends you follow the precautionary measures. Click HERE to learn precautions to take during a boil water advisory.

If you are still experiencing low pressure or you are without water service, please call 404-546-0447.

News Release: DWM ISSUES BOIL WATER ADVISORY FOR ATLANTA RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES

The Department of Watershed Management (DWM) has issued a boil water advisory out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with Georgia EPD guidance for public advisory. DWM calls for immediate water restriction to critical uses only to allow system pressures to rebuild.

There has been a water main break on a 36-inch transmission main at Ferst Dr NW and Hemphill Ave NW, which interrupted service at the Hemphill Electric Pumping Station. The Hemphill service area may experience low or no water pressure.  A map of the impacted area is forthcoming.

The boil water advisory will remain in place until DWM is cleared to lift the advisory following sampling protocols.

In order to protect the public from a potential health hazard, all residents and property owners that have experienced water outages and/or low water pressures are advised to boil all water prior to use, or use bottled water, for drinking, cooking, preparing baby food or brushing teeth. The water should be boiled for one minute past a rolling boil. Infants, the elderly and those with immune deficiencies should be particularly cautious. Do not drink water from public water fountains in the impacted area.

Vigorous hand washing or showers with soap and tap water should be safe for basic personal hygiene. However, if washing hands to prepare food, use boiled (then cooled) water along with handwashing soap.

The public should continue to boil their water or use bottled water until the boil water advisory is lifted. If you experienced a loss of water at your address but your address is not within the area described, the City recommends you follow these precautions.

The Department of Watershed Management will follow its flushing protocols for the system as a precaution and has sampled the affected zones to affirm that there is no contamination in the system. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division will advise DWM when the advisory can be lifted.

NPU-S Meeting This Thursday, June 18, 7pm

This Thursday the 18th will be the NPU-S General Meeting for June 2020, held as always on the third Thursday of the month at 7pm.

As usual, our meeting is being held over Google Meet. Attendees should register beforehand! If you do not register then we cannot count your attendance or verify your identity on voting matters.

To register, either  register online at http://bit.ly/NPUS-Meeting-Register, or call (770) 744-5311 and leave a message with a way for us to reach you.

Agenda, minutes, and supporting documents can be found on http://bit.ly/NPUS-Meeting-Docs

To attend the meeting:
We have two votes this month, both ordinance changes.
  • Z-20-07 - requires houses being built on 'landlocked' property (no street access) to get a Special Use Permit beforehand.
  • Z-20-36 - removes certain restrictions on the "relationship of building to the street" - porches, garage entrances, and so forth. We've added supporting documentation showing the restrictions to be removed by the proposed ordinance.
As always, there will be representatives from the police, code enforcement, public works, and other City departments call in to give reports. We will also go over NPU and community efforts to help our residents during the COVID crisis.

Due to COVID-19 this meeting will take place virtually.

ALL FULTON COUNTY POLLING SITES TO REMAIN OPEN UNTIL 9 P.M.

At the request of the Fulton County Department of Registration & Elections, the Superior Court of Fulton County has issued an order extending voting hours today until 9 p.m. at all locations.  Any voter in line at that time will be allowed to vote.

Beginning at 7 p.m., ballots will no longer be scanned but will be placed in provisional ballot envelopes, per O.C.G.A. 21-4-418(d).

Today is the first election in most poll workers in Fulton County and across Georgia operated the new election equipment introduced this year.  While the majority of polling places operated smoothly, a number of sites experienced challenges with equipment throughout the day.

The extended hours will provide more time for any voters affected by these issues to cast their ballots tonight.
