APS Charter School Common Application - Accepted through March 2

From Atlanta Public Schools:

Are you looking for a spot at an Atlanta Public Schools charter school for the next school year? Charter school applications for the 2020-2021 school year are now open! New this year: Families can find information for all APS charter schools and apply to multiple charter schools with just one application at ApplyAPSCharter.org.

“For families, schools, and the District, the former system of charter school enrollment was disjointed and cumbersome with different processes and timelines across charter schools,” said Matt Underwood, executive director of the APS Office of Innovation. “This new more centralized system our office has developed in collaboration with the District’s charter schools will allow for more equitable access to school choice options for families and make the whole process of charter school enrollment in APS more efficient and transparent. In addition, the District will have much better data about charter school application and enrollment patterns.”

For a full list of participating schools, click here. Applications will be accepted through March 2. Learn more and apply today at ApplyAPSCharter.org.

Belmonte Hills Neighborhood Civic Engagement: Eastridge Road Ravine Cleanup

From our neighborhood partners in Belmonte Hills:
Volunteers are needed to again remove trash from the ravine and creek bed on Eastridge Road near Belmonte Hills.
On Saturday, February 15, 2020, at 10 AM, Belmonte Hills volunteers will converge on this site to remove trash dumped over the last two years despite a posted warning sign. Our community benefits directly from this effort because trash in the creek bed could flow into Belmonte Hills if not removed, clogging our storm water drainage pipes. Join us if you can. Bring your gloves and wear sturdy shoes; bring hand shears, pruners, loppers and trash bags if you have them. Thank you.

Film Screening this Thursday, February 13, 5pm, Auburn Avenue Library

From Georgia STAND-UP and Housing Justice League:

"Join Georgia STAND-UP and the Housing Justice League at a screening of the film, Little Pink House, a dramatic, touching and true film about one woman’s fight to save her home and another woman’s effort to take it to advance her political ambitions-a conflict that ultimately led all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

It is based on the events related to Kelo v. City of New London, a U.S. Supreme Court case in which Kelo unsuccessfully sued the city of New London, Connecticut, for its controversial use of eminent domain.

The film will screen Thursday, February 13th, at the Auburn Avenue Library, 101 Auburn Avenue, NE.  The evening begins at 5 p.m. with a reception, followed by the film at 6 p.m., and a panel discussion at 7:30 p.m. about eminent domain in one Atlanta neighborhood.

Hope to see you there."
