HouseProud Emergency Home Repairs

HouseProud Atlanta works with local community groups to identify the seniors, veterans and disabled people who can benefit most by repairs designed to make their homes livable, so they can remain in them longer.

HouseProud Atlanta remains committed to the safety and welfare of our clients. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have shifted our home repair focus to serve clients who have critical emergency repairs only. During this time, our team will continue to work while implementing our stringent contact protocols to serve those who need repairs most. We will continue to monitor the ongoing situation to determine when we will resume our regular services.

Emergency repairs include:
  • no working toilet/severe plumbing backup or clog
  • no hot water
  • no functioning heat/air
  • roof that actively leaks into living space
  • no electricity/power to large section of home
  • rodent or other infestation
Our team is very grateful to those who have contacted HouseProud to learn how they can help during these unique times. While we are limiting physical labor right now, making a financial contribution today is the best way to support the work we do.

As an Atlanta homeowner, you are eligible for no-cost home repair and improvement through the HouseProud program if you can answer “yes” to these three questions:
  1. Are you 55 or older, a veteran or disabled?
  2. Is your income $1,000 or less per month (for veterans, $1,300 or less per month)?*

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Atlanta Housing Announce Joint Rent Relief Efforts for Program Participants Affected by Georgia’s COVID-19 Stay-at-Home Order

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Atlanta Housing (AH) CEO Eugene Jones, Jr. announced several rent relief efforts for seniors, families, and other residents who live in AH-owned or subsidized units and have lost income as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes Housing Choice Voucher Program participants.

Those residents suffering a loss of income due to COVID-19 can certify their current income and upon approval, receive a rent reduction, up to 100 percent of the contract rent, for two months, covering the months of April and May 2020, with AH making payment directly to the property owner or management company.

“These measures will provide much-needed relief for those who desperately need it,” said Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. “As we—as a community—navigate unprecedented circumstances as a result of COVID-19, we have a responsibility to exhaust all reasonable options to support Atlanta families.”

“Atlanta Housing’s rent relief efforts are designed to address the financial uncertainty residents face due to the pandemic and subsequent shelter-in-place order,” said AH Board Chair Dr. Christopher Edwards. “AH will continue to champion Mayor Bottoms’ initiatives, who has shown compassionate leadership throughout this crisis, and we will continue to be responsive to the needs of our residents.”

Free Lunches for Seniors from the Fulton County Department of Senior Services

The Fulton County Department of Senior Services is offering free lunch delivery to seniors age 55 years or older living in Fulton County whose ability to obtain food has been negatively impacted by COVID-19. There may also be a curbside meal distribution option available from 11am to 1pm daily, Monday through Friday.

  • Describe what the NPU is currently doing to help the community during the COVID-19 crisis
  • Solicit ideas for additional programs, plans, and actions the NPU can take to respond to this and other emergencies

NPU-S Wellness Checks

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, NPU-S is starting a free Wellness Check program. Volunteers will regularly call residents to make sure they're doing well and to see what needs people may have. Initially, phone calls will be made every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but will likely expand as the program grows.
