Saturday May 7: District 5 Family Fun Day 2022



Fulton County District 5 Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington, Jr. invites families to his 7th Annual Family Fun Day. The event, scheduled for Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be held at the Oak Hill, Child, Family, and Adolescent Center located at 2805 Metropolitan Parkway SW, Atlanta, GA 30315.

The annual outdoor event combines both fun activities with public health awareness efforts.

Among the highlights of this event includes storytelling, face painting, yoga, line dancing, and more. There will be live appearances from special guests. Free lunches and slushies will be served, but supplies are limited. Participants must RSVP.

Family Fun Day focuses on healthy living through health education and screenings, COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, and a mobile food pantry. Parking will be available at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church at 2840 Metropolitan Pkwy SW, Atlanta, GA 30315 and at Emma Hutchinson Elementary School at 650 Cleveland Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30315.

Community Church of God Bazaar April 30



The Women's Ministry at Community Church of God, 850 Cascade Ave, Atlanta, GA 30310 is looking for a variety of vendors for their Spring Bazaar that will be held on Saturday, April 30 from 10am to 3pm.

The church has agreed to waive the $25 registration fee for your organizations. You can bring your own tables and promote your cause on that day IF you are interested in participating.

Spelman Math Corps Summer Program: Applications Due April 22.

 Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women is partnering with Spelman College to deliver its first-ever Math Corps Summer program on campus.  Math Corps is a 4-week summer curriculum to enhance math skills for middle and high school students with additional Saturday enrichment classes through the 2022-23 academic year. The program kicks-off on June 6.  

Eligibility requirements and application links below.  There is no cost for students to participate.

Spelman Math Corps Program Requirements:
  • Camp Dates: June 6 - July 1st
  • Registration & Orientation: May 24th
  • Young women who identify as Black in grades 6 - 7 and 9 – 11 are eligible to apply
  • Applicants must attend an Atlanta (or metro-Atlanta) public or charter school
  • Applicants must have a willingness to learn and to improve math skills

Atlanta Parks and Rec Summer Job Fair

Invest Atlanta Resurgence Campaign

Qualified city of Atlanta small businesses and non-profits have one month left to apply for the Resurgence Grant Fund, a program recently reopened through Invest Atlanta to help small businesses and non-profits recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund offers the opportunity to apply for a grant of up to $40,000 to cover pandemic-related costs such as complying with requirements necessary for businesses to operate safely, payroll and commercial rent.

This year, businesses are not required to provide tax documents or profit and loss statements, to make the application process more accessible and easier to complete. In addition, Invest Atlanta has put together a how-to video to walk applicants through the process of uploading documents to the portal.

Applications close at 5 p.m. April 29, 2022.

MARTA is restoring weekday service schedules and frequency to many bus routes. Additional service will be added in the future as we continue to hire more bus operators, bus technicians, and other staff. We're looking for dynamic individuals with a passion for public service, to help us fulfill our commitment to deliver quality services to our riders. Join our team today.

Routes listed below, which were temporarily following Saturday schedules on weekdays, will be fully restored to weekday service levels.

The community blood drive was a success!  Thank you to my Blood Drive Planning Team and to Thursday's Red Cross donation staff!!  I'd like to especially thank Lady Precious Early and the Community Church of God for ordering the much needed outdoor blood drive banners and for providing a donation site.  I'd also like to thank Atlanta City Councilmembers Kecia Waites and Jason Dozier and Deborah Scott, Director of Georgia Standup for their monetary support.  Thanks to The Sickle Cell Foundation, The People's Agenda-Voter Education, and the Outdoor Activity Center.  They all set up vendor tables and educated the community on Thursday as well.  Please view pictures of the event that are attached to this email.

Atlanta Police Department's Citizens Police Academy Registration Open

From the Atlanta Police Department:
We are now accepting applications for Class #40  of the Atlanta Police Department's Citizen Police Academy. The dates for the Academy are Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm -9:00pm starting May 3, 2022- June 21, 2022.  The deadline to receive applications is Tuesday, April 26, 2022.

Our mission is the education of Atlanta citizens in the operations and practices of their Atlanta Police Department. The program encourages participants to provide invaluable feedback necessary to foster enhanced police and community relations.

The Atlanta Citizens Police Academy includes twenty-plus hours of skilled and professional instruction delivered in three-hour sessions. We require a one-night per week commitment over a nine-week period. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm – 9:00pm.   • Minimum age of 21 years
  • No felony convictions
  • No misdemeanor convictions within one year of application
After completion of the application, consent forms, and waiver forms a standard background check will be completed.

#VAX UP Fulton: COVID-19 Vaccine Update



COVID-19 VACCINATION INCENTIVE
Fulton County residents now have additional locations to receive a $100 incentive for first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Additional sites hosted by Fulton County Government have joined Fulton County Board of Health sites offering the incentives to the unvaccinated.
 
The newest sites include locations at the Fulton County Government Center in Atlanta, the Emma Darnell Museum & Conference Center in the Fulton Industrial District, and 4700 North Point Parkway in Alpharetta. 
 
All incentives are available only to Fulton County residents, ages 5 and up, seeking their first or second doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
