Atlanta Streets Alive Route,Timing, and Local Access Updates

From Sagirah Jones, Atlanta Streets Alive Community Engagement Coordinator (sagirah@atlantabike.org, 404-881-1112 x 10):

1) Route modification: The route runs from Cascade Avenue (at the intersection of Donnelly Avenue) to Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard (at West Ontario Avenue) continuing on to Georgia Avenue (at Hank Aaron Drive).  This morning, MARTA provided an approved bus re-route plan that does not place undue burden on transit users the way the previous route would have.

2) Time change: The program run time has changed from 2pm - 6pm to 2:30pm - 6:30pm. This was a compromise between church leaders' preferred program start time of 3pm and resident feedback asking for the start time to stay at 2pm. Additionally, this end time provides enough daylight time to safely clear the streets (sunset will occur around 7:25pm).

3) Local access:  Churches, residents, and businesses directly on the route will have street access until 1:30pm. At the end of the program, local street access will begin again at 7pm. We just ask that drivers use caution during these times as there will be program partners, workers, and volunteers setting up and breaking down the program.

As we move forward with program delivery to neighborhoods that support Atlanta Streets Alive and were extremely vocal in having the program in Southwest Atlanta in order to assist with the advocacy efforts of their communities, we want to ensure we have provided solutions that accommodate your concerns.

Additionally, you are invited to attend a Community Info Session on Thursday, August 22nd, 5:30pm at Providence Missionary Baptist Church. The session will provide you with more information about our program and advocacy, as well as share details on how your business, church, or organization can participate. Please RSVP at www.atlantastreetsalive.com/southwestinfosession. Food and beverages will be provided.
